Let’s talk Black Excellence, shall we?

Phylicia Rashad has been appointed as dean of Howard University’s College of Fine Arts, and she’ll step into her new role sooner rather than later Woot.

The legendary actress/Howard University alumna will report to the school’s provost Anthony K. Wutoh. She will officially head the newly reestablished fine arts college beginning July 1st, the university said.

“As we reintroduce our campus community and the world at large to Howard’s College of Fine Arts, the dean will play an instrumental role in ensuring an auspicious beginning for this reestablished institution,” Howard University president Wayne A. I. Frederick said in a statement. “Given Ms. Rashad’s reputation as well as her capabilities and impressive list of accomplishments, she will undoubtedly empower the college to transcend even our incredibly high expectations.”

The famed actress plans on being more than just a famous name attached to a leadership position at the HBCU. According to provost Anthony K. Qutoh, the CREED actress’ major focal points will be the new building for the College of Fine Arts and School of Communications, adding that she’ll be involved in designing it along with spearheading fundraising. It’s reported she’s also interested in making sure the school’s curriculum is contemporary. She’ll be recruiting excellent new faculty members to replace recent retirees and there’s hope her name will raise enrollment in the fine arts majors.

In 1970, Phylicia Rashad graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. Years later, she landed the role as the iconic Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” which premiered in 1984.

Over the years, Phylicia has received honorary doctorates from a number of institutions, including Howard University, where she served as a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member. Now, she’s the QUEEN DEAN!

Folks have been giving Phylicia her flowers on social media since Howard made the announcement, including a shoutout from her sister, Debbie Allen:

We love it here.
