The 14-year-old son of Jazz musician Keyon Harrold Sr. is reportedly seeking therapy after he was randomly tackled by a woman – dubbed #SoHoKaren – who accused him of stealing her iPhone. Also, the police have identified the woman who attacked the black teen. More inside….

The teenage son of Jazz musician Keyon Harrold Sr. was severely traumatized after a woman randomly tackled him in a hotel lobby after she accused him of stealing her iPhone. Turns out, she left her iPhone in an Uber rider, which was later returned to her.

Last week, surveillance video of a woman tackling a black teen – Keyon Harrold Jr. – to the floor because she thought he stole her iPhone went viral. The clip came from surveillance of the Arlo Hotel in SoHo, sadly, one day after Christmas.

At first, police were looking to identify the woman. Now, her identity has been revealed.

The woman who tackled the 14-year-old in the hotel lobby in the video has been identified as 22-year-old Miya Ponsetto from California.

The NY Post reports:

Miya Ponsetto, 22, was identified by NYPD sources as the woman caught on camera falsely accusing the 14-year-old son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold of stealing her iPhone.

Photos posted online with Ponsetto’s name also appear to match the young woman who melted down in the lobby of the Arlo Hotel in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood and tackled Keyon Harrold Jr. in a vestibule.

Sources told TMZ the teenager is seeking therapy as a result of being tackled by the strange woman he did not know.

Keyon Harrold tells TMZ … he and his ex-wife, Kat, are currently vetting therapists and looking to get their son — 14-year-old Keyon Jr. — into trauma therapy soon. Keyon (the dad) tells us his son is seriously traumatized … and a lot has to do with Miya Ponsetto immediately zeroing in on him.

Keyon Jr. asked his dad a simple question that unearths lots of serious issues, including self-doubt … “Why Me?”

Keyon says he’s raised his son to become a proud, Black man, saying, “I have tried to instill dignity in my son. I’m trying to build his ego, because for so long egos of Black men have been shattered.”

Keyon feels without professional help, his mission may be torpedoed by Ponsetto’s vicious attack on his son. His dad tells us, “He wonders if he’s good enough to own an iPhone, or whether he’s out of place at a nice hotel.” That, Keyon says, must immediately be nipped in the bud.

There’s also a practical problem. Both parents are musicians and travel a lot, which means they stay at hotels quite a bit. Keyon says his son is now showing fear about going to hotels. Keyon Jr. has told his dad he’s afraid someone will come from behind and tackle him. He’s also afraid of being accused of a crime. In fact, he told his dad the day of the incident he felt like a criminal.

While some uncofirmed reports claim she is Latina, the name Ponsetto is actually of This is heartbreaking to read that a 14-year-old black boy doesn’t feel he’s worthy enough to carry an iPhone in fear of being targeted.

#SoHoKaren doesn’t seem too bothered by the scandal. She was spotted making rounds in her SoCal neighborhood, but let the authorities tell it, they still can’t find her. Since jetting out of NYC, photogs caught #SoHoKaren in Ventura County, yet, the police act as if they can’t find her. Hmph.

#SoHoKaren is no stranger to starting drama in these streets.

Months before she tackled the black teen in a hotel lobby, Miya and her mother was arrested at the Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills when staff ordered them to leave and they wouldn’t.

TMZ reports:

Miya and her mom, Nicole apparently wore out their welcome when Peninsula staff ordered them to leave, but they refused. Law enforcement sources tell us, someone from the hotel called police, told them the women looked drunk and refused to leave … so Beverly Hills cops showed up to handle the situation.

Our law enforcement sources say when they arrived and tried to get Miya and Nicole to leave, Nicole allegedly pushed and kicked a cop. Both women were arrested … Nicole for battery on a police officer and being drunk in public. While Miya was arrested for being drunk in public. They have a court hearing later this month. Now get this … the L.A. County District Attorney charged both women on May 27, 2020.

The very next day, Miya was arrested again, this time for drunk driving. She pled no contest and was sentenced to 3 years probation, 30 hours of community service and she must take a 9-month alcohol/drug counseling program.

She also has a previous DUI.

Again, charges have NOT been brought up against this woman yet.

After the incident, the jazz musician spoke during a rally on the steps of New York’s City Hall accompanied by his attorney Ben Crump and Rev. Al Sharpton.

“If I wasn’t who I was … this wouldn’t even be an issue,” he said before a meeting with the district attorney that was — according to Crump — arranged by Sharpton.

Harrold, who is from Ferguson, Missouri, said he had been racially profiled himself throughout his life. He noted that the hotel episode could have ended “wrongly” had he not been with his son at the moment.

“I want my son to grow up whole. That’s all we want. … I come from Ferguson and this has been my passport to the world,” Harrold said, pointing to his trumpet. “And I can’t even come downstairs in New York City … and just go get brunch without being attacked and wrongfully accused of something.”

The jazz musician then played his rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

Let’s pray they get justice!
