LeBron James and the sports world mourn the shocking and sudden death of former University of Kentucky men’s basketball player Terrence Clarke. He was 19. Details inside…

LeBron James is mourning the death of a promising basketball star.

The sports world is absolutely gutted after learning former University of Kentucky men’s basketball player Terrence Clarke reportedly died in a car accident in Los Angeles on Thursday, April 22nd around 2pm. He was 19.

Terrence was a solo occupant in a vehicle that ran a red light going “at a very high rate of speed” in San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. After he ran the red light, he hit another car turning left, and then hit a pole and block wall, according to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. John Matassa, who works in the Valley Traffic Division.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was in a truck, did not claim any injuries. Terrence was driving a 2021 Hyundai Genesis, and he was not wearing his seat belt properly at the time of the accident. He was reportedly taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said in a statement. “A young person who we all love has just lost his life too soon, one with all of his dreams and hopes ahead of him.”

“Terrence Clarke was a beautiful kid, someone who owned the room with his personality, smile and joy. People gravitated to him, and to hear we have lost him is just hard for all of us to comprehend right now. We are all in shock,” he wrote.

Coach Calipari added that he is traveling to Los Angeles to be with Clarke’s family during this tragic time.

Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James posted a tribute to Terrence Clarke on social media:

”REST IN PARADISE NEPHEW!!! #YoungKing,” he captioned.

One day before the accident, Terrence Clarke and his teammate BJ Boston signed to Klutch Sports agency. Last month, the players announced they would be entering the NBA draft.

“We are saddened and devastated by the tragic loss of Terrence Clarke,” Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN in a statement. “Terrence was an incredible, hard-working young man. He was excited for what was ahead of him and ready to fulfill his dreams. Our prayers go out to Terrence and his family, who ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

During a press conference, Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens declined to talk about his team’s game out of respect for Terrence and his family.

“To be honest, I was just walking down the hallway and I heard the news about Terrence Clarke. Not sure how much I’d want to talk about the game,” he said. “Those kids are important to us here. I’ve never met him, [but] my son looks up to him.”

During his one and only season with the Kentucky wildcats, he played eight games before he was sidelined due to an ankle injury.

So sad. Prayers up for the Clarke Family during this tragic time!
