Ten people are dead, including one police officer, after a lone gunman opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store. The 21-year-old shooting suspect was apprehended without incident and charged with ten counts of murder. More inside…

A mass shooting in a Colorado grocery store took the lives of almost a dozen people, including one police officer who was the first to respond to the shooting.

A lone gunman reportedly opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado yesterday (March 22nd) where residents had gathered to shop and to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Sadly, 10 people were killed during the mass shooting, including one police officer. The victims reportedly range in age from 20 to 65, according to Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold.

The victims have been identified as Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stanisic, 23; Rikki Olds, 25; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.

The officer was 51-year-old Eric Talley. He was the first member of law enforcement to arrive at the scene.

The Boulder Police Department shared a picture of Officer Talley, saluting him as a hero:

Officer Talley – who joined the police force at the age of 40 in 2010 – had seven children that he “loved more than anything,” said his father, Homer Talley. The late officer had recently started training to be a drone operator so he could get a job to keep himself off the front lines.

“He didn’t want to put his family through something like this,” Homer Talley said.  Devastating.

The shooting suspect has been identified as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa and he has been charged with 10 counts of 1st degree murder. He was shot in the leg and is expected to be released from a hospital and then booked into the county jail, authorities said.

Below is video of the suspected shooter being hauled away in handcuffs…alive:

It was previously reported that the Boulder shooter was a white man, based on the videos. According to his social media posts (that have been taken down), he is a Muslim immigrant from Syria who is deeply religious.

According to CNN, the shooter’s 34-year-old brother, who was also his roommate, said he was suffering a mental break. He claims he had become increasingly paranoid in recent months, even covering his computer screen’s camera because he believed people were watching him.

His brother says he was bullied back in high school, and he became “anti-social” because of it. While the brother claims he didn’t realize he was familiar with guns in this way, his sister said in an affidavit she recently saw him playing with a machine gun.

When he was taken into custody, he said he wanted to see his mother.

“We were like sitting ducks, you know, and that’s one thing that I’m reliving it and looking at it in my head and that, that bothers me, I’m still shivering, I’m still shaking,” said Andy Arellano, who works at the King Soopers store in Boulder.

This is the second mass shooting is less than a week and is the deadliest in the U.S. since the El Paso Walmart shooting in August 2019. 22 people were killed during that shooting. Eight people were killed last week in a string of attacks at three Atlanta-area spas. Six of the women were of Asian descent.

We’re living during some scary times. Prayers up for the families who lost loved ones and all of those affected in any way.
